The Card Outreach Ministry

The Card Outreach Ministry of St. John’s United Methodist Church is carried on by Cathy Mendoza, Mark Aguilar and Melyssa Anderson.  The Card Outreach Ministry, sends cards to various persons to let them know they are being thought about and kept in prayer.

The Card Outreach Ministry, also, provides a gift bag to people who are first time guests at St. John’s. The gift bags contain microwave popcorn, religious meditation materials, bookmarks and a pen from St. John’s United Methodist Church.  The gift bags are a way of greeting guests and making them feel welcome.

Food Pantry

The Food Pantry of St. John’s United Methodist Church reaches out to those needing a little assistance with food. St. John’s gives out 6-8 food boxes per week, so the pantry shelves are always in need of replenishing.

Especially needed are Ramen Noodles, crackers, spaghetti sauce and noodles as well as canned food meats and vegetables, cookies, crackers, fruit juices and toilet paper.  Cash donations are also appreciated so specific needed items can be purchased.

Outreach / Closet

The Outreach Ministry opens each Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm providing free items of clothing to dozens of persons each month. The Outreach Ministry works in conjunction with the Gospel Rescue Mission of Tucson in providing much needed clothing. The clothing items are hung on movable racks that are made available to the public in front of the Sunday School building.  While the primary focus is to provide clothing, the staff helps in assisting the homeless, those with financial needs and provides resources for financial help, housing and medical assistance.

Fellowship Outreach -- All are Welcome!

After worship each Sunday, snack items and time for fellowship is held in the church Fellowship Hall.

Crackers, chips, cookies and sweet breads, to share, are always appreciated.

Each of the above ministries is staffed by volunteers so that any person desiring to become involved in the church’s ministry can find their ‘niche’ in one or more of these areas of outreach.

The staff is also prepared to witness to these persons about their need of a Savior, invite them to attend our regular services and offer to pray with them for needs that are presented.

Operation Christmas Child 2021

Untitled design 10
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who participated in packing or building gift shoeboxes online. Online, we purchased 92 shoebox gifts through the Build a Shoebox Online Goal Page! We individually packed 19 for a grand total of 111 shoeboxes! Multiplied out, as many as 444 children may be impacted by these gifts.

Locally, the Southern Arizona Team collected 9983 shoeboxes through 3 locations. We collected 238 shoeboxes at the St. John’s Drop-Off Location: Great turnout for our first year as a Drop-Off!

We had an amazing Drop-Off Team! We had 18 volunteers, 16 from St John’s UMC! When we weren’t busy counting shoeboxes, we prayed, read  devotionals and  stories from Franklin Graham’s book, “Operation Christmas Child, a Story of Simple Gifts.”  We also had great Christian fellowship! Our volunteers put in over 400 volunteer hours in 8 days!

Our volunteers were: Elsa Cocoa, Donna Durant, Sioux Espinoza, Leticia Garcia, from Calvary Chapel West Campus, Elaine Gokey, John & Nancy Gregory, Loretta Hanson, Alan & Kathleen Hayes, Linda Johnson, from The Evangelical Free Church of Green Valley, Daniella Mendoza, Ronda Redmon, Joe & Jackie Riegert, Jackie Treadwell and Bob & Mary Jo Gaines, Team Leaders. Over the weekend, Alex and Taylor joined us! Good to start them when they’re young!

We thank all our volunteers!
Without volunteers, this ministry wouldn’t be possible.

Until next year, we remain faithfully yours,
Bob & Mary Jo Gaines
